Terry Gajraj visit to LGHLC on August 23rd 2012

Terry Gajraj, his wife Marilyn and Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy visited the Learning enter. Terry Gajraj is a renowned Guyanese singing sensation and one of the most popular Guyanese entertainers in Guyana, West Indies and the US alike. His fans and followers are all over the world. Terry sang many Chutney and soca/Indian blend songs. He is a true supporter of the LGHLC. Terry donated his 2011 CD “Sumatee” to the center; all proceeds from the sale went towards its continued maintenance. In 2012 he donated proceed from his CD “Chutney Hits 2012” to LGHLC which help with funding programs such as the Snack Program. Terry is one of the supporters and entertainers at our Annual Fundraiser in NY.

Imagine the excitement of the students, teachers and parents when they found out he will be visiting the Center. They scrambled to organize a program to welcome him. When he arrived he was adorned with cheers, greetings and garlands. The program included a prayer, few dances by the students to Terry’s songs. Terry sang a few of his songs with the kids as sing-a-long. He gave a very inspiring, entertaining speech to the kids on education and growing up. Terry bought all in attendance Ice Cream. He was very humble and mingled with the students; he took the time to meet and talk to every student, teacher and parent that was in attendance.

Dr. Ramsammy spoke to the kids on the benefits of staying in school, that knowledge of power; you never stop learning even as you grow up. Stating that you are never too old to learn and that he is still in school. The female students were entertaining Marilyn as she moves about and mingle with them all.

Heartfelt thanks to Terry for all his contributions to LGHLC and to Marilyn and Dr. Ramasammy for their visit and inspiring talks. Thanks and “kudos” to the Administrator, teachers and students who hastily and successfully put together the program. A special thank you to Mohamed Ally who arranged and was where in person to help made this day possible. What a day that was for the students, they were all in awe as they left for home that day with happiness glowing on their faces. It was quite a memorable day for all in attendance.
